Godlyvex5: New boss names.

There are currently 13 bosses in DemonCrawl.

Bosses roam the board in the same way as familiars but will only walk into opened cells and will not solve cells. If any cell they enter contains loot or a familiar, the boss will destroy it.

Bosses are random for each quest with three exceptions. In Beyond, the Computer Simulation emblem guarantees Beyond Ego, in normal mode, the player's first completion of Shadowman will always be Bruises and in hard mode, the first completion of Shadowman will be Ego.

When on a boss stage, special loot called s spawn. These empower the boss in unique ways. Making a mistake in a boss level will spawn additional dark hearts as well as, for most bosses, triggering an additional undesirable effect.

Strategy
You are able to kill bosses by freezing or exploding them and can trap them in Bubbles. Ego is an exception and can not be frozen. All bosses resist burning. Having full health along with Midas Glove turns all s into s, making bosses much more predictable. Similarly, Iron Sceptre can clean up unwanted dark hearts without the need to collect them. Uncovering a corner cell as the first cell but then starting to solve elsewhere on the board (using something like Spy gleaning, a Longbow or Wand Of Light to safely make a start elsewhere) will leave a boss confined to a small area of the board, leaving the player to solve the level in relative safety.

As of Sweeping Heights, bosses can resist attempts to remove them:

Godlyvex5: More paints!

Paint is a cosmetic used to apply colours to avatars and inventories. Each stage (apart from Wonder, Reef, Christmas, R, G and B) has a unique paint which can only be found on that stage. In addition, a number of paints exist which can be discovered on any stage.

Paints are standard Objects but fairly rare. As a result, playing on a level with a large number of mods is more likely to make paint appear, as is playing on large stages with a large number of 0-value cells. Consider using items like Miracle Seed to increase the chances of finding paints.

Special stages are non-minesweeper stages in a quest.
__TOC__
Interactions
Special stages appear in quests on the select a stage screen. They are optional, when unlocked they also unlock the next normal stage.

Some effects that mention "stage" can work on special stages, but only if they function on non-minsweeper stage properties. For instance you can unlock, uncomplete, or "exit without completing" a special stage. But you can't add monsters, increase the stage power or add Stage Mods. Similarly, effects that trigger when you complete or begin a stage do not count special stages.

Special Stages
Item Shop
Allows the player to exchange gold for items. Item costs in the shop are randomly adjusted up or down by about 50%(?) from the base costs in the codex. Hard mode quests add an additional +25% to all costs. The items that appear are limited to those with base costs from 1 coin up to to slightly more than the amount of coins you have. This means it is normal to spawn items you can't quite afford, especially on hard.

Omens do not usually appear in the shop, as well as other items that cost 0 coins. Because it costs 1 coin, Dead Rodent is an exception. Or many omens may appear if the player has the The Plague.

With a Merchant Ring, the player can also sell items. The shop will not buy anything that costs 0 coins such as most Omens, Bones and Minions.

Bazaar
Similar to an item shop but the player will be offered 3 selections. These selections will consist of one of the following choices:
*Buy a player's item
*Sell an item to the player
*Exchange an item for an item the player owns

On making a selection, the selection may refresh with another choice. Unlike item shops, bazaars may buy or exchange omens.

Chaos Font
The player is offered a price and 6 options. These options will be 4 random non-Omen items of various costs, 1 omen and an exit. If the player pays the indicated cost, they receive an option at random, which is replaced by another exit. If they draw an exit, the font will dry up and the player will be ejected.

Altar
The player will be offered 3 omens, each with a reward beneath it. 2 will offer the player souls, and the third may offer either souls or a revive. The player can accept an omen for the indicated reward. Be aware that if the player has an omen which prevents the gain of lives, the altar will not care that the player cannot gain the reward but will still give them them omen.

Rite of Passage
The player can pay a gold cost to increase their max life, increase their defence or gain a flat amount of mana. There are 7 "tiers" of upgrades (from +1 to +7 hp/defence or increasing amounts of mana) and the player will only ever be offered the highest tier they can afford.

Library
The player can choose from a random selection of words like "flare", "omen" and "explode". The player will then be given an item which features that word in its description. This item may be an omen or may be a random item of any value. For the rest of the quest, all items you find by any method will be much more likely to be items with that term in their description. Your score box will say "You have become a specialist in <BLANK> items."

If playing cautiously, it may be better to choose words like "armor" since the item pool for armour is rather large and reduces the odds of an omen being select. Even better is "soul", which no omen uses. Note that one of the options can be "omen". Since very few omens actually mention that they affect omens, this can oddly be a fairly good choice and result in items which reduce the effects of omens.

Note that one of the options can be "omen". Since very few omens actually mention that they affect omens, this can oddly be a fairly good choice and result in items which reduce the effects of omens.

**The stage replacement occurs at the start of a quest. Reef and Wonder have different level graphics on the stage select. Therefore, if farming these two levels, it can be quickest to play up to the level before them in Quest 1 and Quest 3, at which point their level graphic will be visible.
**Exiting and reentering the secret levels (by dark chest/smoke bomb/Flawless mod etc) will not reroll the secret level into its regular counterpart since the replacement occurs at the start of the quest.
**Secret levels can be encountered in Endless Multiverse.

Godlyvex5: Removed false information from mystic statue (increasing monster count is not what makes rare loot more common, this is verifiable by using watering can to measure loot frequency), added information about what constitutes rare loot, and added minions to the wishpool rewards.

A landmark is an Object that can be interacted with. __TOC__

Like other objects landmarks hide cell values and block projectiles, and it can be hard or undesirable to remove them. Unlike monsters or Strangers, Landmarks are not alive and can't be killed.
Landmarks can't generally be collected, although Wishpool, Meteorite and Obelisk do disappear if activated.

Sign
Will display text when hovered over. Text can be:
*A general gameplay hint or joke
*A stage-specific message

Obelisk
Obelisks offer the player a minor quest, such as spending X coins before the end of the stage or having X visible monsters at the end of the stage. If the condition is met when the player reveals the final hidden safe cell, the obelisk will turn into either a Tablet of Drocer, Tablet of Ne'kot or a Tablet of Pyxe.

Meteorite
Will provide the player with 3 copies of an item but in return will apply a Mod to all other stages, completed or not. The mod will not always be bad and it is perfectly possible for a meteorite to apply a beneficial mod such as Shiny.

Mystic Statue
Clicking a mystic status will hide all cells, restarting the level. This new level will have more monsters and a higher stage power, though items such as Rasp can alter these effects. If the player completes the new level, the statue will provide a bonus which can include coins, souls, unlocking locked inventory slots and opening completed shops.
The new Mystic Statue stage will have a better chance of generating rare loot. Rare loot includes Tokens, Mega tokens, Artifacts, Emblems, Paints, Purple diamonds, and Dark chests.
If the Mystic Statue was access in a level with the Tunnel mod, the new level will be larger than the first.
If the Mystic Statue contains another Mystic Statue, only the benefit from the last statue clicked will be applied when the level is finally completed. No matter how many "layers" of statue the player has descended into, once a stage has been completed, they will not have to complete any of the other layers they have passed through.
If a statue appears on a Boss level, the statue level will also contain that boss.
For some reason, the Hungry Plant Stranger responds with "WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING?" if present when a statue is used but no other NPC acknowledges them.

Wishpool
Rewards players for opening cells without mistakes. Rewards include coins, lives, minions, and mana.

Score

Score (or Points) is a statistic used to rank players on a leaderboard for each quest.
Score is gained through Awards, which are given after completing a stage. Each award gives a different amount of score, and has certain qualifications that must be met to receive them (for example, completing a stage without taking damage).

Awards
-Victory: Awarded upon completing a stage. Score given depends on monster count, stage size, stage power, and stage mod difficulty. Killing monsters during a stage can lower this score, so presumably spawning more monsters during a stage can increase it.

-Flagless: Awarded if you completed the stage without flagging a cell. Gives score equal to 50% of the Victory award, rounded up.

-Untouchable: Awarded if you completed a stage without losing any health. Gives score equal to 25% of the Victory award, rounded up.

-Fast: Awarded if you complete a stage quickly. Three times are set at the beginning of a stage, depending on the difficulty of a stage. Based on your speed, you may get an insanely fast award, a super fast award, or a fast award. Score given depends on how fast you were, up to a maximum of 100% of the score the Victory award would give.

-Thrifty: Awarded if there are at least 3 uncompleted and unlocked special stages on the world map. Specific amount of score given is currently unknown.

-Boost: Awarded if you have any EXP boosts remaining. Gives no score.

-Achievements: Awarded if you completed any achievements during the stage. Gives no score.

-Charitable: Awarded if you left certain loot behind. Gives a flat amount of score depending on what loot was left behind.
