Infinite

From DemonCrawl Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

To "go infinite" in DemonCrawl is to be able to gain arbitrary items and produce arbitrary effects.

For productive infinite loops between two or three items or effects, see Synergies and Combos.

Infinity step by step

Goal: Infinite Loot, Infinite Stages, Infinite Mana

To be able to get any items we want for any purpose, and change them at any time.

Outline

  • Step 1: Repeat Stages
  • Step 2: Stabilize
  • Step 3: Get Paragon Rod
  • Step 4: True Infinity
  • Step 5: Tidying Up

Step 1: Repeat Stages

Find a way to repeat stages

Example inventory:

We can now extend the quest somewhat.

Step 2: Stabilize

Find a way to safely and easily repeat stages.

Example inventory 1:

Example inventory 2:

Hopefully there is now no realistic way we can die or fail to get our stage repeat. We can pretty much do this forever now.

If you have any way to fill your inventory, stop opening chests now. No need to risk unnecessary Omens.

Step 3: Paragon Rod Purgatory

Find Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod.

Example inventory:

You will find other items and improve your run. Increase safety, get more mana, prune your inventory. The speed you get through the loops will gradually increase. But before and after the Rod is night and day.

It's worth noting that Paragon Rod is also a fantastic item to have in Step 1 or Step 2. It's great at finding the items to take you from an unstable loop directly to Step 4.

Note: the loot value of the stage you're playing may not be high enough to drop an 80 coin item. In this case you will have to rely on shops. Check the items that drop against the codex to make sure some of them are expensive enough.

Step 4: True Infinity

Fix the imperfect Mana/Loot/Stage generation you had to better versions

Example inventory:

No more passing turns, or fiddling with diamonds. Push the button for mana, get a stage full of random loot on demand. You're done now, officially infinite. Do anything you want to do.

Infinite Items Stage.png

Step 5: Tidying Up

Find the conveniences of a proper infinite.

See: Infinite#Create an ideal inventory

Make sure you get a Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod Heirloom for next time.

See: Infinite#Prepare any Heirlooms

Items for Infinites

In particular, the four necessary ingredients:

  • Survive
  • More Stages
  • More Mana
  • More Loot

Survival Items

Item Description Cost
Halo.png Halo Set your max life to 1. Gain 3 revives. 15 coins
Garlic.png Garlic You are immune to omens until your next mistake. 6 coins
Grapes.png Grapes Gain souls equal to your defense and defense equal to your lives, up to a maximum of 5 each. 26 coins
God potion.png God potion Gain 1 revive. 50 coins
Fortune Cookie.png Fortune Cookie Adds the Trusty mod to the selected stage. 27 coins
Dice.png Dice Rerolls the mods on a selected stage, guaranteeing at least one stage mod. 5 coins
Miracle Seed.png Miracle Seed Increase the size of the selected stage. 5 coins
Purify.png Purify [500 Mana] Remove all stage mods from selected stage. 50 coins

Priority number one is to pick up enough Armor, Soul.png Souls, 50-50 solvers and so forth, so you can stay alive. Besides dying to monsters, also look for effects that guard against other run ending dangers, such as Omens or Stage Mods. Survival should also influence your choice of Mastery.

Stage Items

After not dying, the essential thing any infinite requires is way to get additional stages:

Mana Items

Anything that makes mana or virtual mana. Some quality options:

Item Description Cost
Super Mana Potion.png Super Mana Potion Recharge all of your magic items. 30 coins

Mana Lung.png Mana Lung Each turn, gain mana equal to the sum of your chain. 34 coins
Cullstone.png Cullstone You can use uncharged magic items, consuming them after use. 15 coins
Arcane Staff.png Arcane Staff The first diamond you collect each turn will fully charge a random magic item. 30 coins
Glowspore.png Glowspore Each point of mana replenishes all of your magic items. 25 coins
Hatchling Scale.png Hatchling Scale Magic items will keep 25% of their mana after use. 18 coins
Aspect of the Owl.png Aspect of the Owl Every 100 cells you open, fully charge your magic items. 40 coins

Mana Synergy

These can make mana by increasing the power of one or more of the above items that make mana.

Item Description Cost
Electro Pulse.png Electro Pulse Apply electric to all cells. After 1 turn, all cells lose their auras. 14 coins
Wishlist.png Wishlist Activate the completion of all of your status effects. The status timers are unaffected. 16 coins
Divine Watering Can.png Divine Watering Can [400 mana] Spawn random loot in all empty visible cells. 25 coins
Mirror.png Mirror [120 Mana] Randomly use one of your consumable items without losing it. [[Keyword|Manalock]] for 40 turns. 32 coins
Diamond Rod.png Diamond Rod [300 Mana] Convert all visible loot to diamonds. 30 coins
King of Diamonds.png King of Diamonds [200 Mana] Spawn diamonds on visible cells in target 3x3 area. Convert any diamonds that were already in this area into purple diamonds. 45 coins

Topaz of Lightning.png Topaz of Lightning [70 Mana] Target cell gains or loses [[Electric]]. 21 coins
Timepiece.png Timepiece [100 Mana] Cut the duration of your status effects in half. 10 coins

Metamagic

These things make magic more powerful in other ways and are often very helpful.

Item Description Cost
Sphere of Influence.png Sphere of Influence Expands the radius of your targetable items by 1. 30 coins
Astral Spike.png Astral Spike Targeted magic items affect the entire column of cells. 50 coins
Event Horizon.png Event Horizon Targeted magic items affect the entire row of cells. 50 coins
Enchanting Rune.png Enchanting Rune Magic items will trigger an extra time. 21 coins

Loot Items

Generating loot gets items from Chest.png Chests (up to the stage's coin limit), and Coin.png Coins to buy from Item Shops.

You generally want to fill your inventory if possible. You are immune to omens once you are full, and can freely open chests forever. Keep some consumables, to eat when you find an item you want. Preferably Armor or Potions that you can use inside both normal Stages or Special Stages.

Magic loot

Item Description Cost
Divine Watering Can.png Divine Watering Can [400 mana] Spawn random loot in all empty visible cells. 25 coins
King of Diamonds.png King of Diamonds [200 Mana] Spawn diamonds on visible cells in target 3x3 area. Convert any diamonds that were already in this area into purple diamonds. 45 coins
Watering Can.png Watering Can [150 Mana] Spawn random loot on 0-value cells within visible target 3x3 area. 15 coins
Queen of Hearts.png Queen of Hearts [200 Mana] Spawn hearts on visible cells in target 3x3 area. Convert any hearts that were already in this area into souls. 45 coins

If you have Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod, all loot becomes items. For Paragon combos, magic items that make large amounts of loot are ideal.

Consumable loot

Item Description Cost
Treasure Pouch.png Treasure Pouch Spawn a random number of chests between the stage's minimum and maximum power. 6 coins
Golden Helmet.png Golden Helmet [5 Armor] Spawn 5 coins whenever this armor takes damage. Fortify by 1 whenever you collect a coin from a cell with a value of 3 or greater. 30 coins
Diamond Helmet.png Diamond Helmet [8 Armor] Spawn a diamond whenever this armor takes 2 or more damage. Fortify by 1 whenever you collect a diamond. 50 coins
Diamond Boots.png Diamond Boots [6 Armor] Every 30 turns, spawn a number of diamonds equal to the value of the cell you just clicked on. 30 coins
Golden Boots.png Golden Boots [3 Armor] Every 10 turns, spawn 10 coins if you just clicked on a 4 or greater. 20 coins

Other useful items for making loot.

  • Mirror.png Mirror can multiply these, particularly the Treasure Pouch.

When your inventory is full, excess items spill on the ground. So direct sources of inventory items like Minion.png Minions and Bones.png Bones can become loot. Also, anything that kill monsters will produce loot drops.

Shopping

Item Description Cost
Bandana.png Bandana [2 Armor] Instead of spending coins, reduce the durability of this armor by 1. 25 coins
Smoke Bomb.png Smoke Bomb Exit the current stage without completing. 4 coins
Key of Undoing.png Key of Undoing Uncompletes the selected stage. 10 coins
Big Wallet.png Big Wallet Shops have 3 extra items. 8 coins
Golden Goose.png Golden Goose Every 50 cells opened, gain between 50 and 100 coins. 25 coins
Shop Key.png Shop Key [100 Mana] Spend 5 coins to uncomplete the selected Item Shop. 15 coins
Wallet.png Wallet Item shops have 1 extra item. 4 coins
Capitalism.png Capitalism If you spend at least 30 coins in an item shop, it remains open. 9 coins
Genie Lamp.png Genie Lamp After each stage, you will visit a random special stage. 30 coins

You will often want to use Item Shops instead of Chest.png Chests to find your items, especially if you find some shop items.

Item Duplication

Inventory Management

Item Description Cost
Bubble Wrap.png Bubble Wrap [500 Mana] Bubble the last item in your inventory, as long as it isn't Bubble Wrap. 22 coins
Merchant Ring.png Merchant Ring You may sell items at Item Shops 10 coins
Cullstone.png Cullstone You can use uncharged magic items, consuming them after use. 15 coins
Regift.png Regift Consume passive items to spawn a chest. 10 coins
Gold Digger.png Gold Digger Items you find will be worth at least 30 coins. 30 coins

As you accumulate items you will start to run out of freeable inventory space. Merchant Ring.png Merchant Ring is a comprehensive one-slot solution. Bubble Wrap.png Bubble Wrap is the final word on inventory management once you have unlimited mana and clear out the trash. But before those, you can buy some breathing room with the lesser options.

  • Nomad.png Nomads that want to buy or trade for your things can also get rid of your items. Nomads also drop Merchant Ring.png Merchant Ring if you can kill them.
  • Gold Digger.png Gold Digger is an attractive item. It increases the chances of many key items, such as Magic Smoke Bomb.png Magic Smoke Bomb and Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod. The one issue is that the convenient ways to get rid of items you already have cost less than 30 coins, so it might get you trapped with a full inventory. Still, if you don't have Paragon Rod yet don't hesitate to take Gold Digger if you have at least a couple freeable spaces.

Other Resources for Infinites

Difficulty

Casual.png You can get a jump-start on infiniting by simply playing on casual mode.

Advantages:

  • every stage has no guessing
  • no omens

Disadvantages:

  • no artifacts
  • no blueprints
  • some Mastery unlocks require normal or hard

You are essentially guaranteed to be safely infinite the instant you find a Magic Smoke Bomb.png Magic Smoke Bomb at any point. Scribes can still be spawned with Handbell.png Handbell on casual, so use a Casual Mode infinite to get some Token.png Tokens and Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod heirlooms, which will then let you infinite easily in a later Hard quest.

Favor

Always favor (if possible):

Always either favor or heirloom (if possible):

No Paragon Heirloom

Example favors when you do not have a Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod Heirloom:

You have an incentive to pick cheaper favored items so you can afford them in Item Shops or have them come from Chest.png Chests in lower power stages.

If not Paragon Rod, if you can craft any of these recommended things as an Heirloom, do so as an alternative to favoring and favor something else.

Yes Paragon Heirloom

Example favors when you do have a Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod Heirloom:

You do not care about the cost of your favors, Paragon Rod makes random items of any cost. This set is coincidentally not that expensive but if you wanted to favor Ethermancy.png Ethermancy or Aspect of the Owl.png Aspect of the Owl it would be fine.

Other options

  • Mirror.png Mirror does everything, badly. There are consumables that reset and escape stages, that make mana, and that give loot. The manalock is a killer though. Suffers in comparison to Bubble Wrap.png Bubble Wrap which does everything even more and doesn't manalock.
  • Ethermancy.png Ethermancy Immensely powerful but synergy based. Prevents Electric options.
  • Aspect of the Owl.png Aspect of the Owl Robust but slow. A conservative choice.
  • Dragon Scale.png Dragon Scale slightly more reliable Mana Tank that doesn't stack and no synergies. There are better options, like Mana Tank.
  • Book of Spells.png Book of Spells alternative cheap mana source to Magic Amulet.png Magic Amulet. Higher power and with some synergies, but less reliable.
  • Opal of Mana.png Opal of Mana alternative cheap mana source.
  • Electro Pulse.png Electro Pulse controllable electric aura for duplicating key items or looping with bubble wrap
  • Topaz of Lightning.png Topaz of Lightning same as above

Favoring a loot generator seems unnecessary with three premier options in the pool:

If you have a Sigil that makes mana you can get away with being greedier.

Masteries

Wizard

Wizard Mastery.png Wizard Mastery

  • Ultimate recharges a magic item, every Battery.png Battery is a Paragon Rod use.

Duplicast Diamonds:

Bubbler

Bubbler Mastery.png Bubbler Mastery

Spy

Guardian Mastery.png Guardian Mastery

Helpful Emblems:

Lv1 Emblems

If you've found your feet, you may be able to afford 30 artifacts and 10 tokens for a better shot.

  • Infinity Knot.png Infinity Knot gives you many useful items and a lot of extra time to use them. If you can find or craft a mana source the free Chaos Portal.png Chaos Portal will allow you to repeat the first stage forever.
  • Big Bang.png Big Bang If you already have a Paragon Rod.png Paragon Rod heirloom, this is an easy leg up. Use both Miracle Seed.png Miracle Seeds and Lyre.png Lyre on the first stage, you will get a huge pile of loot to transform.

Lv2 Emblems

For the low price of 300 artifacts and 100 tokens

Paragon Rod better
