Tier I At the start of each stage, glean 10 hidden cells.
Tier II Whenever you chord a 4 or greater, glean nearby hidden cells.
Tier III [4 Charges] Glean all hidden cells near gleaned hidden cells.
Unlock I Unlock by gleaning 10 or more cells in a single stage in Normal or above.
Unlock II Unlock II by gleaning 50 or more cells in a single stage in Normal or above.
Unlock III Unlock III by gleaning 100 or more cells in a single stage in Normal or above.


The Spy Mastery is focused on gleaning cells by chording on a tile with a 4 or greater.

General Uses

The spy is one of the more complex classes as it makes heavy use of gleaning, chording 4+ tiles and utilizing over-flagging and chording making it quite the reliable mastery simply by having a lot more information to work off of. Because of this, it's much rarer to have to guess as spy.

Techniques: Gleaned Zeros

Due to Spy I gleaning 10 random cells on the board, often times you tend to get around 1 or 2 gleaned zeros on a stage. Because of this, you can generally just click all around the zero and may find a new open space from it to work off of.

The zero in the middle may or may not be a monster. Glean only tells you about what's around it.


Techniques: False-flagging

As a spy optimal play generally involved chording every 4 or greater tile that you can see and always looking for opportunities to. Simply chording a 4 will glean all of the cells that were flagged. That in and of itself is fairly powerful but what pushes spy to be an extremely reliable class is that all that's needed for the ability to proc is for you to chord and reveal at least 1 cell. Here's an example.

On any other class we'd just click the hidden cell marked with flashing since we know it's safe and use the information from that but spy can do a lot more.

We instead start by flagging all of the cells around the 4 apart from the safe one.

And now you can unflag all of them to just leave the gleans.


From there you can work off of what's left with the new information. It should be stressed again though that this technique works with 5's, 6's and 7's as well. It also procs if you incorrectly chord a 4 or greater. Sometimes doing this just wastes a bit of time since you could solve it normally and the gleans just happened to not help in this case, but other times it can mean you solve a stage without guessing. There are so many ways it can work out and it's extraordinarily useful knowing how to see how glean relates to other patterns.

Uses for your Mastery Ability

Generally, this mastery ability's only specific use is revealing info of things that happen to be around a glean and that can help you if you. It can also be used to speed up how fast you can complete a stage especially with items like walking stick since it has the potential to reveal more zeros and, by extension, the potential to reveal more open areas to work off of. Spy is much more geared around its 2nd passive ability rather than its mastery ability.
