The Detective Mastery solves cells with Strangers, reveals Monsters, and turns them into coins using the ultimate.
Monologues
Alongside providing the bonuses associated with masteries, the Detective Mastery has a unique system of generating status messages in the form of monologues. These monologues, often times written in homage to literary genres such as detective noir, provide no significant gameplay advantage, and appear in a variety of different scenarios.
Mistakes
Whenever the player makes a mistake, that being clicking on an unsolved cell containing a monster and taking damage, the Detective Mastery will add a status message often lamenting the mistake.
Strangers
Tying into the mastery's focus on interacting with strangers, the Detective Mastery shows a status message whenever a stranger is activated. The pool of status messages varies between different strangers, with a generalized group of responses that are used on all strangers, as well as a few responses which are constricted to one stranger type.
Bosses
As a player begins a new board and a Bosses is present, the Detective Mastery will produce a status message. Most bosses have one status message associated with them, with a few having more than one, and some bosses such as Hellwether having none at all, leading to an error message: "String not found: mastery_detective_Hellwether".
