Strategy
By making all chests provide only coins, Metal Detector serves as a fine safeguard against gaining Omens from chest loot when charged.
In tandem with 
Big Booty, having all chests opened provide double coins will quickly add up.
While forfeiting items from the current stage in favor of coins may hurt in the short term, gaining a large sum of coins all at once has its perks. Notably, Item Shops scale their offered items with how many coins the player has when entering. As a result, playing with the Metal Detector can land the player with strong, expensive options that would otherwise be hard to find sold at the shop.
If the player so desires, they can opt to discharge the Metal Detector to enable chests to give loot again. Discharging a Metal Detector in a Minefield will also have a moderate chance to give them an Mythic Emblem, 
Tempting Fate.
