Landmarks are a class of Objects in Demoncrawl.

Landmarks represent inanimate objects that cannot be collected like normal Loot, being unaffected by item effects that specify living objects, such as killing from Weapon. Like other objects, Landmarks obscure cell values where they are place, and block projectiles. They don't spawn on numbered cells by default. Sawblades can com in contact with, and destroy Landmarks.

While some Landmarks are functionally inert, some provide an effect when clicked.

Sign

A sign is a basic landmark that has no innate function when clicked. When hovered over, a textbox will appear with a general message, ranging from gameplay hint and tips, a message that is specific to the theme of the current Stage, or jokes and flavor text.

By default they are an obstacle to gameplay, they may obstruct cell values and have no inherent benefit.

Signs can be destroyed by Flares and Burning. The  Educational mod causes a stage to have many more signs than usual, and disregards placing them on non-numbered cells, obscuring the cell's value.

Each run, weighted towards the end of the run, one sign will give the player the message "BOSSNAME was here". This informs the player which boss will be at the end of their quest and can help the player prepare themselves, particularly with their choices in special stages.

Image Name Description Cost

Directions Gain 2% pathfinding whenever a sign spawns. 24 coins
Divine Bonfire [150 Mana] Burn target sign and gain 3 souls. 16 coins
Handaxe Chop down signs. 14 coins
Secret Decoder Learn the true meaning of signs. Each stage has an additional sign. 14 coins
Warning Sign [100 Mana] Spawn a sign on target visible cell, then move nearby monsters to random hidden cells. 29 coins

Barrel

Barrels are a hazardous landmark, being able to explode when clicked by the player. Detonating a Barrel by clicking it will explode the surrounding 5x5 area, destroying objects and killing monsters.

If the player has a targetable item however, they can aim it at a Barrel to extend its area of effect. This makes the targeted effect of the item to be applied to a 5x5 area surrounding the Barrel, removing the Barrel after being used, without damaging the player.

Barrels can be destroyed by Flares and Burning, exploding in a 5x5 area and applying fire to all affected cells.

Honeypot

Honeypots attracts a number of nearby living objects to its position when activated, allowing for both Strangers and Monsters to be relocated. This also effects hidden monsters, revealing them from beneath hidden cells.

Similarly to the Wishpool, visible Honeypots will generate charges, with an additional charge being gained for every 30 Cells opened without a mistake, displaying a message when doing so: "The sweet allure of honey intensifies...". Each charge gained by a Honeypot attracts an additional living object, and each honeypot starts at one charge.

Meteorite

Meteorites provide the player with Items in exchange for adding a Stage Mod to all other stages in the quest, completed or not. When viewing the Meteorite's tooltip, the items provided as well as the stage mod that will apply to the other stages will be shown.

There are some limitations to what the Meteorite can accomplish:

  • The types of items provided by Meteorites are restricted to Passive, Consumable, and Magic items, excluding Omens and Legendary Items.
  • The stage mods that can be added to each stage purposefully excludes positive stage mods, such as the  Shiny mod or  Hidden mod.

Mystic Statue

Mystic Statues offer the player the ability to restart the stage when activated, hiding all visible cells and shuffling all monsters as if the player had just entered the stage. Doing so also increases both the monster count and stage power, making the stage temporarily more difficult. If the player completes the new level, the statue will provide a listed bonus.

  • Gain (?-20) souls
  • Gain (15-20) defense
  • Reward: Gain (8-20) tokens
  • Gain (16-20) minions
  • Gain (?-300) coins
  • Gain 1 revive.
  • Destroy a random omen
  • Gain a Present.
  • Unseal all of your inventory slots.
  • Remove a total of (5) stage mods from unfinished stages.
  • Uncomplete all Item Shops

Activating a Mystic Statue also increases the Rare Loot multiplier for this new stage by a listed amount, between +25 to +250%. Rare loot includes Tokens, Mega tokens, Artifacts, Emblems, Paints, Purple diamonds, and Special Chests. If the Mystic Statue stage contains another Mystic Statue, only the reward from the most recent statue clicked will be applied when the level is finally completed.

In a  Tunnel mod stage, the new mystic statue stage level will be larger than the original. If a statue appears on a Boss level, the statue level will also contain that boss. Certain Strangers, such as the Stranger#Hungry Plant or Stranger#Jock respond when the player activates a Mystic Statue. Their reactions are "WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING?" and "Not cool, bro.", respectively.

Obelisk

Obelisks are an interactive landmark, allowing the player to attempt a timed challenge for a reward. An Obelisk will ask you to open (15-30) cells within 10 seconds after activation, with a random penalty for failure in its description.

Possible Penalties:

  • Gain a number of Omens
  • Spawn a number of Cankers
  • Lose a number of Coins
  • Lose your first 2 items
  • Seal a number of inventory slots

You will gain a Tablet on success:

Image Name Description Cost
Tablet of Lairetam Gain a random artifact at the end of each stage, and a stack of 10 artifacts at the end of the quest. 0 coins
Tablet of Ne'kot Gain a Token at the end of each stage, and 50 Tokens at the end of the quest. 0 coins
Tablet of Pyxe Gain 100 XP at the end of each stage, and 1000 XP at the end of the quest. 0 coins
Tablet of Yunnub Gain an Egg at the end of each stage, and open 10 Eggs at the end of the quest. 0 coins

Spawner

Spawners are a small collection of Landmarks. They take the form of various Strangers, being visually similar, but not animated and gray.

When clicked, the Spawner will spawn a stranger matching its type on a random visible cell. Activating a Spawner also has a chance to break it, destroying the spawner and killing all visible strangers of the same type. The odds of the spawner breaking is initially 10% of breaking, increasing by an additional 10% for every activation, up to 50%.

Wishpool

Wishpools are a one-time use landmark, giving the player various resources and stats when clicked, before drying up and disappearing. When visible, Wishpools generate charges, adding an additional charge for every 30 Cells opened without the player making a mistake, as well as producing a message 'The Wishpool shimmers with light...'. Each Wishpool starts with one charge, and each charge increases the associated rewards of activating the Wishpool.

Reward Amount per Charge
Coins 5
Lives 1 Healing
 Minions 1 Gained
Mana 20 Restored
Pathfinding 1%

Dimensional Tabernacle

Dimensional Tabernacles (formerly Dimensional Vaults) only appear in Endless Multiverse. They allow the player to sacrifice one of their current items to guarantee an additional Guide in the Metagate.

Originally, Dimensional Tabernacles offered to take a random item from the player, with later tabernacles allowing them to retrieve the stored item in exchange for another item. This allowed for the transfer of the stored item to a later dimension.
